The School of Business affiliated under the University of Texas at Austin is known as the McCombs School of Business or simply McCombs. McCombs School of Business was established in the year 1922 as the College of Business Administration even though University of Texas, Austin was established way back in 1883.
University of Texas, Austin also had a Graduate School of Business under its fold during that time. The School got its present name from businessman Red McCombs who in 2000 gave a $50 million donation to University of Texas, Austin and as a result the University of Texas merged the College of Business Administration and the Graduate School of Business into one – Red McCombs School of Business.
The School of Business has campuses in University of Texas, Austin, Central Texas in Dallas, Houston and in Mexico City. Undergraduate classes are held in the main campus of University of Texas, Austin, whereas most of the postgraduate classes are held in Dallas, Houston and Mexico City. McCombs School of Business has on an average 6000 students each academic year and till date has more than 84000 alumni base. There are more than 4300 students enrolled in the various undergraduate programs, more than 1500 in postgraduate courses and more than 100 students in the PhD program. McCombs also has faculty strength of 220 full time instructors.
The Academic programs on offer by the School of Business are divided into undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies. The Undergraduate programs include – Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Integrated Master of Professional Accounting which includes the BBA program, Business Honors Program (BHP) and a Business Foundation course.
Graduate programs on offer by McCombs School of Business include – full time Master of Business Administration degree, Texas Evening MBA, Texas MBA at Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas MBA at Houston, Texas Executive MBA, Texas Executive MBA at Mexico City, Master in Professional Accounting (MPA), Master of Science in Technology Commercialization and the PhD degree. The students registered for full time MBA degree, evening MBA degree, MBA at Dallas, Houston usually are required to have a work experience of more than 2 years. Whereas students registered for Executive MBA at Mexico City and Texas usually have work experience ranging from 5-10 years and 8-18 years respectively. In addition, candidates are required to take the GMAT for getting admitted to the graduate courses.
Non degree executive education programs include courses in General Management, Open enrollment programs, Custom Corporate Programs and courses from Institute for Managerial Leadership.
McCombs School of Business doesn’t accept spring or summer applications and only fall semester applications are accepted for admissions.
