BUTEX is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 scholarship program, featuring the newly introduced Sustainability Abroad Scholarship. Open from May 16th to July 10th, this scholarship supports undergraduate students from BUTEX Full Member universities who are undertaking study abroad, summer school, work, internship, or traineeship placements in the 2024 calendar year. With a focus on promoting sustainability and fostering global cultural understanding, the £500 scholarship encourages students to engage deeply with global environmental challenges and exchange innovative ideas, aiming to create a network of passionate individuals dedicated to sustainable practices both locally and internationally.

Additionally, in honor of the late Treasurer Tony Emmerson, a special £500 award will be presented to a successful American Studies student. Eligible applicants must be affiliated with a BUTEX member institution, be undertaking or have completed a qualifying placement, and be enrolled in their undergraduate course during application and award receipt. Benefits for BUTEX Sustainability Abroad Scholarship:

The value of each scholarship is £500. This will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university, or confirmation of a placement already completed has been received.

BUTEX will also make a special award in honour of our late Treasurer, the Tony Emmerson Award. This scholarship will be awarded in the event of an American Studies student being successful in the competition. This award will also be for £500.

This scholarship is open to domestic and international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria for BUTEX Sustainability Abroad Scholarship:

This scholarship is open to undergraduate students like yourself, but there are a few things to consider:

Who can apply?

• You must be an undergraduate student enrolled at a BUTEX member university. Not sure if your university is a member? Check the list they provide!
• You can be either an incoming or outgoing student on a study abroad program.
• Your study abroad/exchange program, work/internship/traineeship, or summer school program must have taken place (or be taking place) during the same calendar year you apply for the scholarship.
• Study abroad programs must be for one semester or one year. Work/internship/traineeship placements can be of any length, but must be overseas.
• You must be currently enrolled in your undergraduate program when you apply and receive the scholarship (graduated students are not eligible).
