The Government of Canada, through Global Affairs Canada, is offering fully funded scholarships under the Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 (BCDI 2030) program for students from 26 eligible countries to pursue vocational, technical, and higher education degrees at Canadian universities and institutions. The program covers full tuition, travel, and living expenses, with new intakes announced through project-specific calls until the program ends in 2030.


What Is the BCDI 2030 Scholarship?


The BCDI 2030 (Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030) is an eight-year, fully funded program (2022–2030) designed to offer world-class education and training in Canada. It is funded by Global Affairs Canada and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by focusing on reducing inequalities and promoting inclusive learning.


BCDI 2030 supports approximately 600 international students from low- and middle-income countries. At least 51% of the scholars will be women, contributing to gender equity in global education.

Eligible Nationalities

Unlike other scholarship programs, individuals cannot apply directly to BCDI 2030. Eligibility is determined through project-based partnerships between Canadian higher education institutions (HEIs) and HEIs in one of the 26 eligible countries including:

Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia.

Eligibility Criteria

General Requirements:

  • Must be a national of one of the BCDI 2030 eligible countries
  • Must be nominated through a partner institution's project-based call
  • Must meet the academic and admission criteria of the Canadian institution offering the program
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to contributing to the social and economic development of their home country upon return

Application Procedure

Here’s how to apply:

  • Step 1: Projects are created through partnerships between Canadian HEIs and institutions in eligible countries
  • Step 2: Participating institutions will launch their own calls for applications
  • Step 3: Students apply through their local HEI or international partner institution
  • Step 4: Candidates are selected by project teams based on academic merit and alignment with program goals

Deadline: 

  • Each project has its own deadline, but all applications must be submitted before the final phase of the program in 2030.
