What you'll study

The programme combines core economics training with specialised courses in environmental and resource economics and applied policy analysis. Core modules typically cover microeconomic theory, econometrics and quantitative methods to ensure rigorous analytical skills. Specialised modules cover topics such as environmental valuation and cost–benefit analysis, climate change economics, natural resource and energy economics, ecosystem services, and the economics of pollution and regulation.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree. Successful candidates usually demonstrate strong quantitative preparation (for example, university-level calculus, linear algebra, probability/statistics and introductory econometrics) and prior coursework in economics or a closely related field. Admissions decisions are based on the overall academic record, a statement of purpose outlining research and career goals, a curriculum vitae or résumé, and academic references.

Evidence of quantitative ability is important; applicants with degrees in economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering or physical sciences are commonly well prepared. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to provide proof of English proficiency according to the university’s graduate admissions requirements. Some applicants may be asked to submit standardised test scores if required by the programme or to support an application.
