What you'll study

This programme builds a solid foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, then applies those tools to environmental and natural resource problems. Typical modules include:

• Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics — core theory in consumer and firm behaviour, market structure, national income and growth.
• Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics — deeper theoretical and mathematical analysis of markets and aggregate outcomes.
• Econometrics and Statistics for Economists — regression analysis, hypothesis testing and data interpretation using real datasets.
• Environmental Economics — valuation of environmental goods, externalities, market-based instruments, and cost–benefit analysis for environmental policy.
• Natural Resource Economics — economics of renewable and non-renewable resources, management of fisheries, forests and water resources.
• Public Economics and Environmental Policy — role of government, regulation, subsidies, permits and international environmental agreements.
• Applied Policy Analysis and Program Evaluation — methods for assessing policy impacts and designing evidence-based interventions.
• Electives and interdisciplinary options — environmental law, geographic information systems (GIS), energy economics, sustainability, and courses from biology or political science to broaden perspective.
• Capstone or Research Project — an applied project or senior thesis that allows students to investigate a policy or market question using economic tools and empirical data.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have completed secondary education with a strong academic record. Typical entry requirements include:

• Domestic applicants: high school diploma or equivalent; satisfactory grades in mathematics are recommended. Troy University may consider SAT/ACT scores depending on admission route.
• International applicants: equivalent secondary school qualification and demonstrated proficiency in English (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or other recognised test) if English is not the first language.
• Transfers and mature students: previous college coursework, a transcript, and sometimes a minimum GPA are required. Experience or prior study in economics, mathematics or statistics is beneficial.
• Additional considerations: personal statements, letters of recommendation and evidence of quantitative ability can strengthen an application.

• Environmental economist or policy analyst in government agencies, assessing regulation, pollution control and resource management.
