What you'll study

This programme blends practical studio and performance training with art history, theory and professional practice. Core work typically includes foundation courses in drawing and design, courses in painting, sculpture, photography and digital media, and classes in theatre, dance or music performance depending on a student’s focus. Students study art history and critical theory to contextualise practice, and take modules in composition, ensemble performance, stagecraft and production where relevant.

Programme structure commonly combines general education requirements with major-specific courses and electives. Students complete progressive studio or performance sequence courses, collaborative projects, and a culminating capstone such as a senior exhibition, performance project or research-based portfolio. Entry requirements

Admission follows the University of Vermont's undergraduate requirements. Applicants should hold a recognised secondary school completion credential. For applicants specialising in studio or performance areas, submission of a portfolio or audition is normally required; guidelines are provided by the department and should demonstrate recent work or performance experience. Academic transcripts, a personal statement outlining artistic interests and goals, and letters of recommendation are also typically required.
