What you'll study

This programme provides a balance of core science coursework, clinical skills training and professional development. You will take classes in human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, and clinical laboratory techniques. Modules typically include clinical procedures and diagnostics, hematology, immunology and serology, clinical microbiology, instrumentation and laboratory quality assurance, medical terminology, statistics and research methods.

Practical learning is central: students spend time in on‑campus laboratories and simulation suites learning sample handling, instrumentation operation, data interpretation and laboratory safety. The curriculum culminates in supervised clinical practicum placements in regional hospitals, diagnostic laboratories or clinic settings and a capstone or research project that integrates laboratory work with patient‑centred practice.

Entry requirements

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent with strong performance in science and maths subjects (biology, chemistry and algebra are typically expected).
• Personal statement demonstrating interest in clinical science and patient care.
• One or more academic references; some applicants may be invited to interview.
• Accepted students must be able to complete standard health and safety checks required by clinical partners, which commonly include immunisations, tuberculosis screening and background checks.
• Prerequisite college credit or AP credit in laboratory science or chemistry can be beneficial for advanced placement; transfer applicants are considered on a course‑by‑course basis.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for entry‑level roles in clinical and diagnostic laboratories, such as clinical laboratory technologist, laboratory technician, phlebotomy or specimen processing roles, and positions in hospital laboratories, private diagnostic centres and public health labs. The programme also prepares students for clinical research support roles, quality assurance in medical device and laboratory reagent companies, and positions in healthcare informatics related to laboratory data.
