What you'll study

The International Business major blends core business disciplines with global studies, languages and experiential learning. Coursework typically covers:

• Core business foundations: financial and managerial accounting, principles of marketing, micro- and macroeconomics, organisational behaviour, and business law.
• International specialisms: international finance, global marketing, cross-cultural management, international trade and finance, global supply chain and logistics, and comparative business systems.
• Ethics and peacebuilding: courses on business ethics, corporate social responsibility and the Mennonite tradition of peacebuilding and social justice applied to global commerce.
• Skills and methods: quantitative methods for business, negotiation and communication, intercultural competence, and practicum-style project courses.
• Language and area studies: instruction in at least one foreign language and regional studies coursework to deepen cultural and market understanding.
• Experiential learning: an internship, a practicum or a capstone project that partners with organisations locally or abroad; many students undertake a semester of study abroad or a short-term international field placement.
• Liberal-arts requirements: EMU’s curriculum requires general education courses in the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences to develop analytical, written and ethical reasoning skills.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a high-school diploma or equivalent and submit academic transcripts. Typical expectations include a solid academic record with competence in mathematics and writing. Additional materials commonly requested are a personal statement, a résumé of extracurricular or work experience, and one or more academic or character references.

International applicants must demonstrate English-language proficiency through recognised tests or prior education in English. EMU may consider standardised-test scores where provided, but admission decisions are based on the whole application. Mature or transfer applicants should supply college transcripts and may be asked for syllabi to evaluate transfer credit.
