What you'll study

This programme takes an interdisciplinary approach to culture, drawing on humanities and social sciences to examine literature, visual culture, media, performance, heritage and everyday practices. Core topics typically include cultural theory, historiography, media studies, art history, ethnographic and qualitative research methods, and thematic modules such as urban culture, transnational cultural flows, popular culture and cultural policy.

Teaching is organised in a modular system combining lectures for broad orientation, smaller seminars for discussion and text work, and practical courses for skills development. You will normally complete project work and case studies, language and communication modules, and a research methods sequence that prepares you for empirical work. The degree concludes with an independent bachelor’s thesis that integrates theoretical reflection and empirical evidence or a substantial practice-based project.

Entry requirements

• General university entrance qualification appropriate to the German higher education system (e.g. Abitur) or an international equivalent recognised by Augsburg University.
• Proficiency in the language of instruction.
