What you'll study

The Globalization programme combines courses from international studies, political science, economics, sociology, anthropology and environmental studies to give a rounded understanding of global processes. You will learn theoretical frameworks and apply them through case studies, regional specialisms and practical projects.

• Core topics: theories of globalisation, international political economy, global governance and human rights, comparative politics, and research methods in the social sciences.
• Regional and thematic modules: modules addressing regions such as Latin America, Europe, Africa or Asia; and themes such as migration and transnational mobility, development and inequality, global health, and cultural globalization.
• Skills development: quantitative and qualitative research methods, policy analysis, negotiation and diplomacy, intercultural communication, and foreign language proficiency.
• Capstone and experiential learning: a senior seminar or capstone project that requires independent research or a policy brief; internships with local or international organisations; and opportunities for faculty-led study-abroad programmes or semester exchange.

Students follow an advisor-approved plan that balances general education, major requirements and electives, allowing room to tailor the degree with a regional focus, a language minor, or a complementary discipline such as business or environmental studies.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to have completed a college-preparatory high school curriculum including coursework in social studies and English. Admissions decisions are based on the overall academic record, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement outlining interest in international issues.

• Standard applicants: submission of official high school transcripts and a personal statement; schools may request letters of recommendation and a school report.
• Transfer applicants: submission of college transcripts demonstrating successful college-level work; transfer credit is evaluated on an individual basis.
• International applicants: submission of secondary-school credentials and proof of English language proficiency where applicable; evaluation of international credentials follows established admissions policies.
• Additional preparation: background in a foreign language is strongly recommended and students are encouraged to have coursework or extracurricular experience related to history, geography, economics or global affairs.
