What you'll study

The programme combines the core principles of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics with applied courses that address environmental issues and public policy. You will develop quantitative competence in statistics and data analysis alongside theoretical grounding in market behaviour, welfare economics and public finance.

• Core economics: introductory and intermediate micro- and macroeconomics, intermediate econometrics, mathematical economics, and applied statistics for economists.
• Environmental and policy-focused modules: environmental economics, natural resource economics, cost–benefit analysis, energy economics, environmental policy and regulation, and sustainable development.
• Interdisciplinary options: courses drawn from environmental science, political science or geography such as environmental law, policy analysis, conservation and land-use planning, and geographic information systems (GIS) where available.
• Research and applied work: seminars or a capstone project in which students conduct original research or policy analysis; opportunities for fieldwork, internships or placements with government agencies, NGOs and local businesses.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a secondary school diploma or equivalent with a solid record in mathematics; coursework in calculus or statistics is strongly recommended. Because the programme emphasises quantitative analysis, applicants who lack prior mathematics beyond algebra will usually be advised to undertake preparatory coursework. Transfer students should provide transcripts from previous institutions and any relevant course descriptions for evaluation.
