What you'll study

The Area Studies curriculum at Rollins is built around intensive study of a chosen region (for example Latin America, East Asia, or Europe) and combines language training with courses in history, politics, society, economics and culture. Students typically take a mix of core methodological courses, region‑specific topical modules, and practical skills courses, and complete a research capstone or senior thesis.

• Core modules: introduction to area studies approaches, research methods in regional studies, comparative regional analysis.
• Language study: progressive semesters of at least one regional language, with opportunities for advanced conversation and literature courses.
• Regional modules: political systems and governance; modern and premodern history of the region; cultural production and media; economic development and trade.
