What you'll study

The MSW curriculum blends classroom learning, applied research and supervised field practicum to develop assessment, intervention, policy and leadership skills. Foundation-level courses cover human development and behaviour, social welfare policy and services, research methods, and practice with individuals, families and groups. Entry requirements

Applicants typically need a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Candidates without a BSW will complete the foundation curriculum; students with a CSWE-accredited BSW may be eligible for advanced standing. Typical application materials include academic transcripts, a personal statement describing professional goals and relevant experience, a current CV or résumé, and letters of recommendation.

FIU requires demonstration of readiness for graduate study; many applicants present a competitive undergraduate GPA and relevant experience in human services. International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements. Background checks, immunisation records and clearance for field placement are usually required before beginning practicum courses.
