What you'll study

The Mechanical Engineering curriculum combines foundational engineering science with applied laboratory and design work. Over the course of the programme you will study core areas such as statics and dynamics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, and control systems. Applied and computing subjects commonly include computer-aided design (CAD), finite element analysis, manufacturing processes, instrumentation and measurements, and programming for engineers.

Students also complete progressive laboratory courses and a senior capstone design project that integrates analysis, prototyping and testing. General education requirements support communication, ethics and teamwork skills. Electives and technical concentration options allow focus on areas such as robotics and automation, energy systems, materials, or computer-aided manufacturing. Opportunities for internships, cooperative placements and undergraduate research are embedded into the programme to provide real-world experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a high school diploma or equivalent with strong preparation in mathematics and science. Successful candidates typically have undertaken college-preparatory mathematics through calculus and a background in physics. Admissions review considers academic record, preparation in STEM subjects, and other supporting materials such as personal statements or references where provided.

Transfer applicants should provide college transcripts; prior coursework in calculus, physics and chemistry may be evaluated for transfer credit. Prospective students seeking additional academic support can access bridging or preparatory courses in mathematics and physics offered by the university.
