What you'll study

The programme balances practical studio work with academic study. In early semesters you build technical proficiency through regular technique classes (ballet, modern/contemporary, jazz, and African/World forms where offered), improvisation and partnering. Coursework introduces anatomy for dancers, somatic approaches, dance composition and choreographic methods.

Upper-division study emphasises advanced technique, composition laboratories, repertory and directed projects. Typical modules and topics include:

Entry requirements

Successful applicants typically hold a high-school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate consistent dance training or performance experience. Admission commonly requires a practical audition or submission of a recorded performance and/or choreography portfolio, plus academic transcripts.

Programmes expect a personal statement outlining artistic goals and experience, and at least one letter of recommendation, preferably from a dance teacher or arts professional. Mature applicants with substantial relevant experience are considered. International applicants must meet the university's English-language proficiency requirements.
