What you'll study

The programme provides a foundation in population health, epidemiology and biostatistics, then applies those methods to animal-related disease ecology and control. Typical core topics include introductory public health, principles of epidemiology, biostatistics, infectious disease biology and environmental health. Veterinary-focused and elective modules cover zoonotic diseases, veterinary public health, animal disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, diagnostic laboratory methods, and One Health theory and practice.

Students take laboratory and field courses to develop practical skills in sample collection, basic microbiology techniques, spatial analysis (GIS) for disease mapping and data visualisation. The degree usually culminates in a practicum or internship with a public-health agency, veterinary diagnostic laboratory, NGO or research group, plus a capstone project or senior seminar applying epidemiological methods to a real-world animal–human health problem.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have completed secondary education with strong performance in science subjects such as biology and chemistry and a foundation in mathematics. Successful applicants typically demonstrate academic readiness through school grades; standardised test submission may be optional depending on the university's admissions policies. Admissions panels look for evidence of communication skills and interest in public health, which can be shown via personal statements, relevant extracurricular experience or volunteer work.

International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency to the standard required by the university. Applicants without a strong scientific background may be required to take introductory coursework before progressing to advanced modules.
