What you'll study

The programme combines advanced coursework in human nutrition and metabolism with applied clinical skills and supervised practice experiences. Typical modules cover advanced medical nutrition therapy, clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning, lifespan nutrition (from paediatric to geriatric care), nutrition support and enteral/parenteral feeding, community and public health nutrition, foodservice systems management, and evidence-based practice and research methods.

Study normally includes a mix of seminars, case-based learning, laboratory work and supervised clinical rotations or practicum placements in hospitals, outpatient clinics and community settings. Students complete a capstone practicum or research project that integrates clinical competencies with critical appraisal of the literature and professional practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutrition, or a closely related health/science field. Candidates should have completed foundational undergraduate coursework such as introductory and advanced nutrition, human physiology or anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, and statistics; specific prerequisite courses are listed by the department and may be required prior to enrolment.

Selection is based on academic record, relevant experience in nutrition or healthcare settings, references, and a personal statement outlining professional goals. Some applicants may be asked to demonstrate competencies through interviews or submit a portfolio of clinical experience. Applicants who do not meet all prerequisites may be admitted conditionally and required to complete bridging coursework.

With additional supervised practice or credentialing where required, graduates may pursue registration/licensure as dietitians or nutritionists, and some continue to doctoral study or move into research, policy, education or industry positions (product development, corporate wellness, and nutrition communications).
