What you'll study

The programme combines technical construction knowledge, management principles and practical field skills. Coursework covers construction materials and methods, site layout and surveying, estimating and cost control, scheduling, construction law and contracts, building codes, safety and risk management, and sustainable construction practices.

• Core technical modules: materials and methods, concrete and steel construction, building systems, soils and foundations, and construction site lab work.
• Management and professional modules: construction estimating, project scheduling (critical path and resource levelling), contract administration, construction economics and project control.
• Technology and design: building information modelling (BIM), construction plan reading, CAD fundamentals, and use of industry software for estimating and scheduling.
• Health, safety and sustainability: construction site safety management, regulatory compliance, quality assurance and sustainable building practices.
• Practical experience: hands‑on laboratory exercises, shop and materials testing, site visits, and a capstone project that integrates estimating, scheduling and project administration. Internship or cooperative education placements with contractors and construction firms are strongly encouraged to develop field experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised secondary school diploma or equivalent. Typical academic preparation includes courses in algebra or higher‑level mathematics and a science such as physics, plus good English communication skills.

• Completed high school diploma or equivalent; applicants with relevant technical diplomas or associate degrees may be considered for direct entry or transfer credit.
• Recommended prior subjects: mathematics (algebra or trigonometry), technical drawing/CAD and a laboratory science.
• Applications are assessed on academic records and, where applicable, relevant work experience, references or evidence of technical skills; mature applicants with industry experience are welcome.
