What you'll study

This programme covers fundamental and applied topics across computer science and information science. Early years focus on programming, discrete mathematics, data structures and computer systems to develop strong computational thinking. Core modules typically include databases, algorithms, operating systems, computer networks, software engineering, and human–computer interaction.

In later years students choose advanced and elective modules that may include data analytics and visualisation, machine learning and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, information retrieval, mobile and web application development, and information policy and ethics. Practical lab work, team-based software projects and a senior capstone or practicum are standard components, giving hands-on experience designing, implementing and deploying systems. Entry requirements

Admission requires a secondary-school completion credential equivalent to a US high school diploma, with a strong background in mathematics. Applicants should demonstrate competence in algebra and preferably in calculus; prior experience with programming is advantageous but not always mandatory. FIU evaluates applications holistically, considering academic transcripts, personal statements and any relevant extracurricular experience.

International applicants must meet the university’s English language proficiency requirements through recognised tests or approved institutional pathways. Transfer students from community colleges or other universities are considered; they should provide official transcripts and details of previous computing coursework to assess transfer credit.
