What you'll study

The programme integrates human and physical geography with specialised coursework in cartography and geographic information systems (GIS). You will learn how to collect, analyse and visualise spatial data, design maps for different audiences, and apply geographic methods to environmental and planning problems.

• Core topics: fundamentals of human geography, physical geography, regional geography and research methods.
• Cartography and geovisualisation: map design, symbolisation, typography, colour theory, and interactive web mapping.

Entry requirements

Admission to the bachelor’s programme generally requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of college preparatory coursework. Applicants with strong backgrounds in mathematics, earth science, computer applications or geography will be well prepared.

• Successful completion of secondary school with coursework in mathematics; background in algebra and statistics is advantageous.
• Demonstrated written and analytic skills through school transcripts or equivalent preparation.
• Prior exposure to GIS, computer science or cartography is helpful but not always required; introductory introductory modules are typically available for newcomers.
• For transfer applicants, college-level credits in geographic or technical subjects strengthen an application; official transcripts are required.
