It suits students who enjoy mathematics, systems thinking and applying engineering principles to increase productivity, reduce waste and enhance safety across manufacturing and service industries.
The programme builds a foundation in mathematics, basic sciences and engineering principles before moving into industrial engineering specialisms. Early years cover calculus, physics, chemistry, programming and core engineering courses. Core industrial engineering topics include engineering economics, statistics and probability, operations research, deterministic and stochastic modelling, production and inventory systems, quality control and reliability engineering.
Hands-on experience is emphasised through laboratory courses and a year‑long senior design sequence. Students also gain practical exposure via internships, undergraduate research opportunities and project work using industry-standard software for simulation, statistical analysis and optimisation.
Applicants should hold a high school diploma or equivalent with strong preparation in mathematics and sciences. Typical successful applicants have completed calculus and physics at the high‑school level; chemistry and advanced mathematics are advantageous. Admissions consider overall academic record, strength of college‑preparatory curriculum and supporting materials such as personal statements and letters of recommendation.
Standardised tests may be considered according to university policy, and transfer applicants are evaluated on college coursework in mathematics, sciences and engineering fundamentals. International applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English according to Florida State University's requirements.
Graduates are equipped to work across manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, logistics, service industries and government.
