What you'll study

The programme provides a blend of core project management theory and applied modules that cover the lifecycle of projects from initiation through to delivery and evaluation. Teaching typically includes taught modules, group work, case studies and a substantial research or consultancy project.

• Core themes: project planning and control, risk and resilience, stakeholder and contract management, governance and ethics, strategic programme management.
• Methods and tools: scheduling and resource modelling (eg critical path and resource levelling), earned value management, quantitative and qualitative research methods, decision-support techniques and digital project tools.
• Applied practice: team-based simulations, industry case projects, consultancy-style assignments and negotiation exercises to develop leadership, communication and commercial awareness.
• Research or capstone project: an independent dissertation or applied consultancy project that allows you to explore a project management problem in depth, often with industry supervision.
• Optional modules: elective topics that reflect current industry demands, such as programme management, portfolio management, change management, project finance, sustainability in projects or sector-specific applications (IT, construction, healthcare).

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a good honours degree from a recognised university. The programme is open to graduates from any discipline; candidates with professional experience in project-related roles are also welcomed. Admission decisions take into account academic transcripts, a personal statement, and references. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to meet the University’s standard English language requirements for postgraduate study. In some cases, shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend an interview.

Graduates go on to roles that require strong delivery and leadership skills across public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Typical job titles include project manager, programme manager, PMO analyst, project controls specialist, change manager and management consultant.
