What you'll study

The programme combines advanced taught modules with a substantial research project or capstone clinical practicum. Core topics cover diagnostic imaging modalities and the physical principles behind them, image processing and analysis, radiation safety and protection, and quality assurance in imaging services.

• Advanced Radiographic Techniques: principles and clinical applications of projection radiography and fluoroscopy.
• Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): instrumentation, acquisition strategies, optimisation and artefact management.
• Ultrasound and Doppler Imaging: physics, instrumentation and specialised clinical protocols.
• Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging: basic radiopharmacy, gamma camera/SPECT/PET technology and clinical applications.
• Image Processing and Quantitative Analysis: image reconstruction, filtering, segmentation, registration and quantitative biomarkers.
• Radiation Protection and Clinical Governance: principles of radiation safety, regulatory frameworks and quality assurance programmes.
• Research Methods and Biostatistics: study design, data analysis and critical appraisal of imaging research.
• Capstone Project or Clinical Practicum: an independent research project or an extended clinical placement in collaborating hospitals, demonstrating applied competencies.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree in radiography, medical imaging, biomedical science, healthcare science or a closely related discipline. Professional registration or relevant clinical experience in medical imaging is an advantage for practising candidates. Non-local applicants whose prior education was not in English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English.
