What you'll study

This programme blends computing fundamentals with business-focused modules to give you both technical competence and an understanding of organisational contexts. Early years introduce programming, databases, web technologies and systems fundamentals alongside introductory business topics such as accounting and management. In later years you build on that foundation with modules in software engineering, information systems analysis, data analytics, networks and security, and enterprise applications. The degree emphasises applied learning through practical labs, group projects and a substantial individual project in the final year that typically addresses a real-world business problem.

• Business and management topics: business strategy, organisational behaviour, finance for managers, and marketing principles to contextualise technical solutions.

Structure

The programme is normally studied full time over three years, with a sequence of modules building from core concepts to more specialised and project-based learning. Assessment methods include coursework, practical assignments, group work, exams and the final-year project. Opportunities to apply learning in industry-focused briefs, short placements or internships are integrated into several modules and through the careers service.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a recognised secondary school qualification such as A‑levels, BTEC National Diploma, Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers, or an equivalent international qualification. Admissions typically look for a mix of subjects that demonstrates quantitative and analytical ability; prior study in mathematics or a science is desirable though not always mandatory. Mature students and those with relevant work experience are considered. All applicants whose first language is not English will need to meet the university's English language requirements.

Other admissible qualifications include university foundation years, Access to HE diplomas, and recognised international qualifications. Candidates may be invited to an interview or asked to provide a personal statement outlining interest in both computing and business.
