What you'll study

This programme combines core engineering fundamentals with specialist aerospace topics. You will typically take modules in aerodynamics, flight mechanics and control, aerospace structures and materials, and propulsion systems. Computational methods are emphasised, with modules covering computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA) and systems modelling. Experimental and laboratory skills are developed through experimental methods and instrumentation, data acquisition and processing, and practical testing where available.

The MSc normally consists of taught modules followed by an individual research or design project. The project can be theoretical, computational or experimental and is supervised by academic staff with research expertise in areas such as aerothermodynamics, structural integrity, control systems and space engineering.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a good honours degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or a closely related discipline. A UK second-class honours degree (2:1) or international equivalent is the standard expectation; candidates with a 2:2 may be considered if they have relevant industrial experience or strong evidence of subject knowledge. Applicants should demonstrate competence in mathematics and core engineering principles.

All applicants whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence of English language proficiency in line with the university's requirements. Professional experience in aerospace or related industries is advantageous but not essential for entry.
