What you'll study

This programme combines core psychological theory with applied workplace practice. You will study advanced research methods and statistics for workplace research, psychometric theory and test development, personnel selection and assessment, learning and development, leadership and team processes, work design and job analysis, and occupational health and wellbeing. The course typically culminates in an independent applied research project or dissertation that addresses a real organisational issue.

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, lab sessions and practical workshops using real case studies and employer-commissioned tasks. Assessment is by a mix of exams, coursework, practical reports, psychometric test construction, and the dissertation or applied project.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a UK honours degree (or international equivalent) in psychology that confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society, typically with a good second-class honours or above. Applicants with a non-psychology degree but substantial relevant work experience or prior study in psychological topics are considered on an individual basis; they may be advised to take conversion or preparatory modules prior to full admission.

Applicants whose first language is not English will need to meet the University's English language requirements. Professional references and a personal statement outlining interest and relevant experience in occupational settings are normally required as part of the application.
