What you'll study

This master's programme provides a balance of core economic theory, quantitative methods and applied policy analysis with a focus on issues relevant to Thailand and the region. Students normally follow a programme of taught modules and a substantial research component (thesis or independent project).

• Core modules: advanced microeconomics, advanced macroeconomics, and applied econometrics—each covering theory and empirical implementation.
• Applied and policy modules: public economics, monetary economics and financial markets, development and labour economics, trade and industrial policy, and environmental/resource economics with Thai case studies.
• Quantitative methods: time series analysis, panel data methods, forecasting and the use of statistical software for economic research.
• Research component: an independent thesis or supervised research project that applies theoretical and empirical methods to a topic of policy or economic importance in Thailand or Southeast Asia.
• Seminars and workshops: regular research seminars, policy workshops and guest lectures from policymakers and practitioners to bridge theory with real-world issues.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a recognised bachelor's degree in economics or a closely related discipline (e.g. finance, statistics, mathematics or development studies) with strong quantitative training. Equivalent professional qualifications with relevant experience may also be considered.

• Academic transcripts demonstrating relevant coursework in microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics or econometrics.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Thai is required for the Thai-language programme; candidates whose prior instruction was not in Thai may need to provide evidence of language ability or pass a language assessment.
• Additional application materials typically include a CV, a statement of purpose outlining research interests, and academic references. Shortlisted applicants may be interviewed as part of the selection process.

• Economist or policy analyst in government ministries and agencies, including roles focused on fiscal, labour, trade or regional development policy.
• Analyst or researcher at the central bank, financial regulator or state-owned enterprises working on monetary policy, financial stability, or macroprudential analysis.
• Researcher or consultant in private-sector economic consultancies, banks, and multinational firms conducting forecasting, impact assessment and strategy.
• Research positions in national and regional think-tanks, NGOs and international organisations with a focus on development, environment or social policy.
• Further academic study (PhD) for those who wish to pursue university teaching or high-level research careers.
