What you'll study

This degree delivers the academic foundation of a qualifying law degree alongside business and management subjects. In the early stages you will cover core legal subjects typically required for professional legal qualification, such as Contract Law, Criminal Law, Public Law, Property Law, and Tort. Alongside these you will study introductory business and management modules including Principles of Management, Marketing, Accounting and Economics for Business.

As you progress, modules develop applied legal skills and commercial awareness. Typical intermediate and final-year modules include Commercial Law, Equity and Trusts, European Union Law (or contemporary UK/International equivalents), Company Law, Employment Law, and Legal Research and Advocacy. Business-focused options allow exploration of Strategy, Organisational Behaviour, Corporate Finance and Business Ethics.

Teaching methods combine lectures, seminars, workshops and skills sessions. Assessment commonly includes essays, problem-based exam questions, presentations, group work and a dissertation or major research project option. There are practical opportunities such as mooting and negotiation exercises, legal clinic placements, and guest lectures from practitioners that build employability and professional skills.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have qualifications equivalent to successful completion of secondary education, such as A-levels, Scottish Highers, an International Baccalaureate, or recognised international qualifications. Typical offers focus on a combination of academic grades rather than specific subjects, but strong performance in humanities, social sciences or related subjects is advantageous.

The University welcomes mature students and those with alternative qualifications or relevant work experience; these applicants are assessed on the strength of their overall profile. International students should hold recognised qualifications and meet English language requirements. Applicants with Access to Higher Education Diplomas, BTEC qualifications, or equivalent will be considered on an individual basis.
