What you'll study

This honours degree combines theoretical modules in criminology, law and investigative practice with practical, skills-based learning relevant to contemporary policing. Core areas include policing skills and tactics, criminal law and evidence, investigative methods, public protection, community engagement and professional ethics. You will also study modules on forensic awareness, digital policing and intelligence, conflict management and vulnerable people.

Entry requirements

Entry is normally based on a combination of qualifications such as A-levels, BTEC, or an Access to Higher Education Diploma. Typical offers are in line with standard undergraduate requirements and comparable vocational qualifications are accepted. Applicants must have GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

The programme welcomes mature students and those with relevant workplace experience. Prospective students who aim to pursue a police officer role should be aware that employment in a police force will require satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance, occupational health checks and fitness standards; these are separate from university admission. The University also supports applicants through the police constable degree apprenticeship route where available.
