What you'll study

This MSc combines advanced theory with practical laboratory work and systems-level analysis to develop expertise in military electronic systems. Teaching covers electromagnetic and signal fundamentals, sensor and radar systems, communications and networking, electronic warfare, systems engineering and test & evaluation, typically delivered through lectures, practical sessions, modelling exercises and an individual project.

Students gain hands-on experience using specialist facilities, simulation tools and measurement equipment. The individual project allows you to apply skills to a real engineering challenge, often in collaboration with defence industry partners or using on-site facilities.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a good honours degree (or equivalent) in electronic, electrical, aerospace, communications, computer engineering, physics or a closely related discipline. Candidates with substantial relevant industry experience may also be considered. You will need to demonstrate numeracy, core electronic or signal-processing knowledge and the ability to undertake independent research.

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate English language proficiency. Selection includes assessment of academic transcripts, references and a personal statement; professional experience and employer sponsorship are considered positively.

Graduates pursue technical and engineering roles across defence and security sectors, prime contractors and specialist suppliers. Typical career paths include:
