What you'll study

The programme blends core computing topics with business and systems-design applications. You will study programming and software development, database design and administration, computer networks, and systems analysis and design together with elective options that reflect current industry needs.

• Programming and Software Development – introductory and intermediate courses in structured and object‑oriented programming, data structures, and software engineering principles.
• Databases and Data Management – database design, SQL, data modelling, and fundamentals of data security and administration.
• Networking and Infrastructure – principles of computer networks, network administration, cloud fundamentals and systems integration.
• Systems Analysis and Design – requirements gathering, process modelling, system specification, and project lifecycle management.
• Cybersecurity and IT Risk – foundational elements of information security, threat assessment, and protective measures for business systems.
• Web and Mobile Technologies – front‑end and back‑end web development, APIs, and mobile application fundamentals.
• Business and Management for IT – courses in IT project management, business processes, professional ethics and legal aspects of computing.
• Capstone / Internship – a culminating project or workplace placement that integrates technical skills with real‑world business problems.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold an accredited secondary school diploma or equivalent. Admission typically considers academic transcripts with evidence of competence in mathematics; prior study in algebra or higher-level maths is advantageous. Mercy College welcomes applications from mature students and those with relevant work experience; transfer applicants are considered on the basis of college transcripts. International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency where required.
