What you'll study

This programme develops deep content knowledge in language, literacy development and the assessment and instruction of struggling and advanced readers from birth through grade twelve. Core study areas include the science of reading, phonological and phonemic awareness, word study and morphology, fluency, vocabulary development, comprehension strategies, and writing instruction. You will study evidence-based assessment practices, diagnostic teaching, data-driven intervention design, and culturally responsive literacy pedagogy.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree. Candidates who are already certified teachers or who hold K–12 teaching credentials are particularly well suited, though the programme may also accept candidates who seek initial certification with additional credential coursework where required by the state.
