What you'll study

The programme covers the fundamental disciplines that underpin real estate practice. Teaching mixes classroom-based theory, applied workshops and site-based learning to build practical capability.

• Property Law and Practice – fundamentals of land law, leases, conveyancing basics and regulatory frameworks affecting property transactions.
• Valuation Principles – methods of valuing residential and commercial property, comparable evidence, income and residual approaches and basic report writing.
• Property Management and Lettings – landlord and tenant relations, tenancy agreements, property maintenance, health and safety and routine estate management tasks.
• Real Estate Economics and Market Appraisal – supply and demand drivers, local market analysis, demographic and economic indicators that influence property values.
• Development Appraisal and Investment – feasibility studies, cashflow modelling, basic development appraisal and introduction to financing and funding sources.
• Planning and Sustainability – planning system overview, development constraints, sustainable building principles and retrofit considerations.
• Surveying and Site Assessment – practical site inspections, condition reporting, measurement and schedule of condition preparation.
• Professional Skills – negotiation, client communication, ethical practice, business administration and use of industry software for property management and valuation.
• Workplace Learning / Project – a portfolio-based or placement element that applies learning to a real or simulated employer brief, and a culminating project or professional report.

Modules are delivered with assessed coursework, practical assignments and a final project to demonstrate readiness for industry roles or further study.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a relevant level 3 qualification (for example A‑levels, BTEC National, or an equivalent vocational award) or equivalent workplace experience. Mature applicants without formal qualifications but with demonstrable property-related experience are welcome and will be considered on an individual basis.

• A standard entry route is two or three A‑levels, a BTEC National Diploma in a related subject, or equivalent qualifications.
• Applicants whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate an appropriate level of English language proficiency.
• Some applicants may be invited to an interview or asked to provide references; a short practical task or portfolio may be requested for those coming from vocational backgrounds.

Career prospects

Graduates of the diploma typically move directly into operational roles across the property sector or progress to higher-level study. The course is designed to give you practical, employer-valued skills.

• Common entry-level roles: lettings negotiator, property manager, estate agency assistant, residential or commercial lettings administrator, and surveying technician assistant.
• Other pathways: roles in facilities management, property investment support, development administration and land or planning support functions.
• Progression: many students use the diploma as a stepping stone to specialist degrees, higher apprenticeships or professional qualifications. The practical portfolio and employer contacts developed on the course support applications for further study and chartered routes with professional bodies.
