DAAD Research Grants Scholarship 2025/2026 in Germany (Fully Funded) is available to undertake PhD level programs at Germany Universities.

Benefits

Financial Support:

  • Monthly Stipend: €1,300 to cover your living expenses.
  • Insurance: This scholarship includes health, accident, and personal liability insurance.
  • Travel Allowance: You'll receive a one-time payment to help with travel costs.
  • Research Allowance: You'll get an annual grant of €460 specifically for research-related expenses.

  • Rent Subsidy: You may be eligible for additional financial aid to help cover your monthly rent.
  • Family Allowance: If you have family members accompanying you, you can apply for a monthly allowance to support them.
  • Disability Support: If you have a disability or chronic illness, you may be able to get financial assistance for any extra costs you incur in Germany due to your condition. This is to help ensure you can complete your project. The DAAD will review each case individually to determine eligibility and amount.

Language Support:

  • Online Language Course: DAAD will pay for an online language course after you receive your scholarship award letter. This is to help you improve your German before your stay.
  • Preparatory Language Course (Optional): DAAD may offer a 2, 4, or 6-month language course in Germany before your research starts. They'll decide based on your current German skills and project needs. If your scholarship includes a language course and the research requires German, participation is mandatory.
  • In-Country Language Course Allowance: You can choose to take a German language course during your research stay in Germany, and DAAD will reimburse the cost.
  • Test Fees: DAAD will cover the cost of taking a TestDaF or DSH test, which measures your German proficiency. You can take this test in your home country after receiving your award letter or in Germany during your stay.

Eligibility Criteria

You can apply if you have above-average qualifications and

  • you are doing your doctorate,
  • you completed your Master's degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree, at the latest by the time the funding period begins, or
  • you have already completed a PhD (postdoc).
You cannot apply, if you are doing your entire doctorate at a German university.

Application Procedure

Documents Required

Certificates, proof of credits, certifications and translations may be scanned in non-certified form and uploaded to the DAAD portal. The DAAD reserves the right to request certified copies of the documents.

  • Letter of Recommendation (from university teacher)
  • Other Supporting Documents (employment, internships)
  • Valid ID (passport preferred)
  • Proof of Doctoral Program Admission (if applicable)
  • School Leaving Certificate (with grades)
  • University Certificates (with grades & grading system explanation)
  • German/English translations (for non-English/German documents)

Selection Criteria:

Central selection criteria are:

  • a convincing and well-planned research or training project
  • academic achievements
Furthermore, additional documents submitted that prove the applicant's professional aptitude or provide information about extracurricular commitment will also be included in the evaluation.

The selection committee also gives due consideration to equal opportunities; you can provide relevant information in the application form.

Application Deadline

Application deadlines are updated annually in the second quarter. In most cases, they are in the same period as the previous year. New deadline for the Academic year 2025/2026 is 30th August2024.
