Government of Mexico Invites Applications for the 2024 Mexican Government Scholarship Programme for International Students




The Government of Mexico, through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), is excited to announce the call for applications for the 2024 Mexican Government Scholarship Programme for International Students. This prestigious programme aims to foster academic excellence and strengthen international ties by providing opportunities for foreign students to pursue higher education in Mexico.




The scholarships are available for various levels of study, including master's degrees, doctorates, postgraduate research, and academic mobility programmes at both undergraduate and graduate levels. This initiative underscores Mexico's commitment to global cooperation and the development of highly-skilled human resources.

Degree Level for Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

  • Undergraduate Mobility Programmes: Up to 24 months
  • Master’s Level Mobility Programmes: Up to 12 months
  • Master’s Programme: Up to 24 months
  • Doctoral Programme: Up to 36 months
  • Postgraduate Research Stays (Master's, Doctoral, and Postdoctoral levels): Up to 12 months

Benefits for Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

The scholarship covers: 

  •  Registration and tuition fees at participating Mexican higher education institutions. 
  • A monthly stipend: 
  1. Master's scholarships, Bachelor's and Master's level mobility, and Master's level research: $13,202.12 MXN. 
  2. Doctoral scholarships and research stays at doctoral and postdoctoral levels: $16,502.65 MXN. 
  • Health insurance from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) starting from the seventh month. 
  • Costs for issuing the Mexican resident visa.
  • International airfare upon completion of the academic programme. 
  • National transportation for studies outside Mexico City.

Eligible Nationalities for Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

This scholarship is open to domestic and international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria for Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

Applicants across all levels of study must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum average mark of 85%.

For Undergraduate and Graduate Level Mobilities:

  • Provide an acceptance letter from the receiving Mexican University (issued within 60 days) or a letter of introduction from the Mexican University.
  • Submit a letter from the applicant’s institution agreeing to give academic credit for courses taken in Mexico.
  • If studies are in a language other than Spanish, provide a communication from the receiving institution committing to provide tutoring in that language.

For Master's Degree and Doctorate:

  • Provide an acceptance letter or a letter of introduction from the receiving Mexican University (issued within 60 days).
  • Submit a copy of the most recent degree and an official copy of the last study certificate.
  • If already pursuing a degree in Mexico, provide an academic record issued by the Mexican HEI.

For Graduate Level Research Stays:

  • Provide a copy of the most recent degree and an official copy of the last study certificate.
  • The acceptance letter must indicate the provision of tutoring and specify the advisor and research details.
  • If research is in a language other than Spanish, provide a communication from the receiving institution committing to tutoring in the specified language.

Application Procedure for Mexico Government Merit Scholarship:

Applications must be submitted electronically through the Academic Cooperation Management System (SIGCA) at SIGCA.
