Minimum and Maximum Duration: The program supports research stays of a minimum of two months and a maximum of six months.
Start Date: Your research abroad must commence after the application deadline but within one year of receiving the award notification. Leaving Canada before results are announced may result in non-payment for unfunded applications.
Award Timeline: The supplement must begin before your CGS or Vanier CGS award ends and cannot be claimed during an award interruption.

Funding Your Global Research Journey
The CGS-MSFSS award of up to $6,000 is based on the information and budget justification you provide in your application. This supplement is non-renewable and will be paid through the Canadian institution holding your CGS award.
Eligible expenses covered by the CGS-MSFSS include:
Travel costs
Living expenses (accommodation, meals, etc.)
Other non-research related expenses (tuition, travel/study visas, insurance)
Remember, costs directly related to your research must be funded by other sources.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this exciting opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
Hold an active CGS (master's or doctoral) or eligible Vanier CGS.
Embark on your research trip abroad no earlier than the application deadline.
Not have previously received a CGS-MSFSS during your graduate studies.
Maintaining eligibility throughout your research study period abroad requires:
An active CGS award at the commencement of your research trip.
Continuous registration in a graduate research program at a Canadian institution.
Claiming the award within one year of receiving the CGS-MSFSS award notification.
Completing your degree at your Canadian institution upon return.
A Competitive Selection Process
Applications for the CGS-MSFSS are submitted to the faculty of graduate studies (or equivalent) at your CGS award institution. There's an internal selection process to rank applications based on the following criteria:
The connection between your CGS research goals, proposed research activities abroad, and your future research/career aspirations.
The significance, feasibility, and merit of proposed activities at the foreign institution.
Justification for your chosen host institution and supervisor.
The relevance and anticipated benefits of the proposed activities to your current graduate studies.
Application Procedure
Each agency has its own application form, instructions, and consent forms, and care should be taken to ensure that the appropriate form is used.
You will be required to provide the following information:
The name and contact information of your CGS or Vanier CGS research supervisor and of the proposed host supervisor
The name and location of the proposed host institution
A description of your intended research activities during your research study period abroad (including objectives, methodology, timelines, and expected outcomes) and how they relate to your main graduate research topic, and a description of the potential benefits you will derive from the host institution in relation to your current research objectives (maximum two pages)
A budget that provides estimates for costs of travel, living, and other expenses during your research study period abroad
A letter from your CGS or Vanier CGS research supervisor detailing their support for your research study period abroad and confirming that your proposed research aligns with the research from your CGS award (maximum one page)
A letter from your host supervisor detailing their support for your research study period abroad and the resources they have available-financial (if any), supervision time, equipment, library access, etc.-to support your planned research activities (maximum one page)
