The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Program 2024/2025

Offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), this program supports foreign experts and scholars conducting advanced research in Taiwan. Research interests can focus on Taiwan itself, cross-strait relations, the Asia-Pacific region, or Sinology (Chinese studies). Since its inception, over 1,400 scholars from 93 countries have participated.

Aligning with the APEC Scholarship Initiative, the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship offers 12 exclusive fellowship opportunities each year for scholars and experts from developing APEC economies.

The application window for the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Program opens in May and closes in June each year. Successful applicants can begin their research in Taiwan as early as the following January.



Degree Level for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship:

MOFA Taiwan Fellowships 2024 (Fully Funded) is available to undertake Research level programs at Taiwan Universities.

Benefits for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship:

(1) Monthly Stipend

  • Awarded at the beginning of each month.
  • Professors, Associate Professors, Research Fellows, and Associate Research Fellows: NT$60,000
  • Assistant Professors, Assistant Research Fellows, and Doctoral Candidates: NT$50,000

(2) Travel Allowance

  • Reimbursement for a round-trip, economy-class plane ticket on the most direct route to Taiwan. (MOFA will determine the specific subsidy amount based on relevant regulations.)

(3) Fellowship Term

  • The fellowship lasts between 3 and 12 months.

(4) Health Insurance

  • Accident insurance coverage for NT$1 million (includes medical coverage for accidental injuries).


Eligible Nationalities for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship:

MOFA Taiwan Fellowship 2024 is open to all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship:

Recipients shall be foreign professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or doctoral program students at related departments of overseas universities, or are research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad.
