In a world that grows increasingly complex, The NewNow 2025, a program by One Young World and supported by Virgin Unite, seeks to empower young leaders from the Global South to tackle global challenges through a systems-thinking approach. By uniting passionate and impactful youth, The NewNow focuses on addressing fundamental issues such as inequality, climate change, women’s rights, and education with a lens that encourages holistic, long-lasting change.
The NewNow is a pioneering initiative designed to empower and amplify the voices of bold, emerging leaders who are redefining leadership worldwide. These leaders use systems thinking—a method that views problems as part of interconnected structures—to drive change at multiple levels. This approach emphasizes the importance of collaboration across sectors and strives to address not just symptoms but root causes.
The NewNow community is a diverse group of young leaders aged 18-30, selected from the Global South for their exceptional track record of creating positive impact. These individuals have demonstrated a deep understanding of local and global issues and a commitment to systems thinking as a way to build a fair and sustainable future. Each leader brings unique perspectives shaped by their cultural and regional experiences, and together, they form a powerful network working toward a better world.
The world's greatest challenges, including inequality, youth mental health, and the climate emergency, are complex and interconnected. Systems thinking recognizes that addressing these issues in isolation is not enough. Instead, leaders need to understand the broader ecosystem in which these problems exist and implement strategies that drive change across the entire system.
This approach is especially crucial for young leaders from the Global South, who often face multiple, overlapping challenges. By employing systems thinking, they can develop solutions that not only address immediate needs but also build resilience for the future.
Selected leaders gain access to resources and opportunities that help elevate their impact:
The NewNow promotes a collaborative environment where young leaders can join forces on projects and initiatives. Through this program, they learn to leverage each other’s strengths, making the journey of leadership less solitary and more impactful.
