Scholarship Description: ICFO is calling applications from all around the world to apply for its Industrial PhD-fellowship position on quantum technologies in Spain.

PhD program is designed to prepare PhD-students for leadership in the academic and the industrial worlds. ICFO offers a focused 4.5 year PhD program, in partnership with the UPC – BarcelonaTech, with an emphasis on intensive research-based training.

ICFO is looking for a highly motivated student to accomplish a challenging PhD-project, aimed at investigating new materials and photonic structures for quantum technology applications.

Degree Level: Fellowship is available to pursue PhD programme.

Available Subject: Fellowship position is awarded on quantum technologies. In particular, the project will leverage the latest advanced materials made at Corning Incorporated to implement new designs at ICFO, e.g. in the fields of quantum random walks and quantum memories.

Eligible Countries: Applicants of nationalities are eligible to apply for this fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

• Candidates must hold an internationally recognized master degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) in a related field. The candidates should have a proven record of academic excellence, ideally with a background in two of the following areas: quantum physics, optoelectronics/photonics, and material science.


• Selection is based on merit and potential, measured in terms of the academic record and personal achievements. Academic excellence is a must. Pro-activity, participation in community activities, and capacity for team-work are also taken into account.


• Our Ph.D. program is designed to prepare PhD-students for leadership in the academic and the industrial worlds. ICFO offers a focused 4.5 year Ph.D. program, in partnership with the UPC – BarcelonaTech, with an emphasis on intensive research-based training.


• Female graduate students are strongly encouraged to apply.
