Administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), this prestigious program supports studies related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, China, Asia-Pacific regional issues, and Sinology, particularly within the fields of social sciences and humanities.

About the Taiwan Fellowship

Established in 2010, the Taiwan Fellowship Program aims to promote international academic exchange by inviting foreign scholars, professors, and doctoral researchers to conduct research at Taiwan’s leading universities and academic institutions.

It supports research in areas such as:

Benefits

Successful applicants of the 2026 Taiwan Fellowship will receive the following support:

  1. Monthly Research Grant:
  2. NT$60,000 for Professors, Associate Professors, Researchers
  3. NT$50,000 for Assistant Professors, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Doctoral Students
  4. One round-trip economy-class airfare, up to NT$60,000 for applicants from Europe
  5. Group accident insurance during the stay in Taiwan:
  6. NT$1,000,000 accident insurance
  7. NT$50,000 accident medical coverage
  8. Flexible research duration: Minimum of 3 months, up to 12 months (must be continuous)
  9. Research period window: Must begin on or after January 1, 2026 and end by December 31, 2026


Eligible Nationalities

This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities except Taiwanese.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Taiwan Fellowship 2026, applicants must:

  1. Be non-Taiwanese citizens (foreign nationals)
  2. Be academics or researchers in the field of humanities or social sciences
  3. Hold the position of:
  4. Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor
  5. Postdoctoral Researcher
  6. Doctoral Candidate or Doctoral Student
  7. Conduct research in one or more of the following areas:
  8. Taiwan studies
  9. Cross-strait relations
  10. Chinese politics or society
  11. Asia-Pacific regional affairs
  12. Sinology


Application Procedure

Follow these steps to apply for the Taiwan Fellowship 2026:

Step 1: Online Application

  1. Complete the online application form at the official website.
  2. Deadline: June 30, 2025

Step 2: Submit Documents by Post

  1. Send the required documents by July 1, 2025 (based on the postmark) to:
  2. Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Prague
  3. Address: Evropská 33C, 160 00 Praha 6
  4. (Write “Application for the 2026 Taiwan Fellowship” on the envelope)

Required Documents:

  1. Printed application form from the online system
  2. Curriculum Vitae (with publication list)
  3. Research Proposal (3 pages in English, following academic format)
  4. Two recommendation letters, or
  5. One recommendation letter and one consent letter from the applicant's institutional head

Selection Timeline

  1. Application period: May 1 – June 30, 2025
  2. Document submission deadline: July 1, 2025
  3. Final results announcement: Expected in early November 2025
  4. Research must commence no earlier than January 1, 2026, and be completed by December 31, 2026
