The primary aim of the IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) is to encourage and assist young women in their pursuit of a career in the nuclear field. To achieve this goal, the MSCFP offers scholarships to eligible students who are enrolled in Master's degree programs focused on nuclear-related subjects. Additionally, the programme facilitates internship opportunities through IAEA, providing practical experience and support to the selected scholars.
The significance of women's contribution to science cannot be understated. Scientific advancements, exemplified by Marie Sklodowska-Curie's pioneering work on radioactivity, have revolutionized the world and brought numerous benefits to humanity.
Today, as our world grapples with pressing challenges such as climate change, population growth, food security, and escalating energy needs, the presence of a qualified workforce is essential to drive innovation and productivity. Nuclear-related studies play a crucial role in addressing many of these challenges, and the demand for skilled professionals in this field is continually rising.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plays a vital role in promoting peaceful nuclear energy usage and relies on a competent pool of technical professionals to fulfill its mission. To achieve this, it is imperative that women are adequately represented in the nuclear sector. However, women often encounter obstacles in entering and progressing in STEM fields, starting from their early education years.
To bridge this gender gap in the nuclear domain, the IAEA has introduced the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme. This program is designed to empower and encourage more women from diverse backgrounds worldwide to pursue rewarding careers in the nuclear field. By fostering gender-balanced capacities in areas such as nuclear energy, nuclear applications, safety, security, and non-proliferation, the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme aims to create a more inclusive and diverse workforce that can effectively address global challenges.
The IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme 2024-25, Austria. is available to undertake Fellowship, Masters level programs at Austria Universities.
The programme supports young women studying in nuclear related fields relevant to the IAEA’s work to advance the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology such as nuclear engineering, nuclear physics and chemistry, nuclear medicine, isotopic techniques, radiation biology, nuclear safety, nuclear security, non-proliferation and nuclear law. More examples of related fields are listed here.
The students are awarded up to €20,000 for tuition costs and up to €20,000 for living costs for living costs for the Master’s programme.
