Description

The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation globally, with countries seeking sustainable solutions and market reforms to meet growing energy demands while combating climate change. In this context, fostering collaboration and sharing expertise across borders is essential to ensure a cleaner and more efficient energy future. The Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship 2025, hosted at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee, offers a unique opportunity for professionals in China’s energy sector to contribute to this evolving dialogue.

Overview of the Fellowship

The Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship is an initiative funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) aimed at senior officials and professionals from the energy industry in China. This fellowship is part of the broader UK-China Energy Dialogue, a strategic initiative to enhance cooperation between the UK and China on energy market reforms, energy security, and climate change mitigation efforts.

Programme Structure

Fellows selected for the programme will spend three months in Dundee, engaging in research projects specifically designed to support the aims of the UK-China Energy Dialogue. Hosted at the University of Dundee, fellows are granted full access to classes, lectures, and seminars at CEPMLP, an internationally renowned center for energy and legal studies. The fellowship is tailored to provide the participants with a platform to engage in meaningful research, with the support of an academic supervisor from the University of Dundee throughout the programme.

Research and Academic Engagement

Participants are expected to work on a research project that aligns with the overarching goals of energy market reform. The proposed research topic will be discussed and fine-tuned during the interview stage with a CEPMLP faculty member, ensuring the project is both impactful and feasible. Fellows will gain unrestricted access to academic resources, networking opportunities, and seminars on energy, petroleum, and mineral law. This exposure to cutting-edge research and global best practices will further enhance their understanding and capabilities in energy reform.

Cultural and Networking Opportunities

In addition to academic enrichment, fellows will also benefit from a programme of cultural events and activities organized by the FCDO and the Chevening Secretariat.
