The United Nations, in collaboration with The Nippon Foundation, is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 session of the prestigious UN-Nippon Foundation Fellowship Programme. This fully funded fellowship offers mid-level government officials and professionals from developing countries an unparalleled opportunity to advance their expertise in ocean affairs and the law of the sea.


A Comprehensive Fellowship Experience


The nine-month fellowship provides a unique learning experience, beginning with a three-month training phase at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This is followed by a six-month research and study phase at a host institution. Fellows will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute significantly to the development and implementation of ocean policies and programs in their home countries.

Degree Level

United Nations-Nippon Foundation Fellowships 2025 in USA (Fully Funded) is available to undertake Fellowship level programs at USA Universities.

Eligible Nationalities

This fellowship is open to international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be aged between 25 and 40.
  • Possess a minimum of a first university degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Have a proven record of conducting advanced academic research.
  • Be a citizen of a developing country.
  • Currently hold a mid-level government or professional role directly involved in ocean affairs or maritime law.
  • Propose a research or study program that will directly benefit their country's ocean affairs and maritime law policies.

Application Procedure

Application Instructions:

  • Download the application form: Save it as a Word or PDF document.
  • Complete the form electronically: Use sentence case (e.g., John Smith) for all fields. Sign with your electronic or handwritten signature.
  • Answer all questions clearly and thoroughly: Pay close attention to sections 18, 19, and 20. Attach one additional page (same size) if needed.
  • Two Required Forms:
  1. Personal History and Proposed Research/Study Programme Form: Completed and signed by you.
  2. Nomination and Recommendation Form: Completed and signed by your nominating entity.

Submission:

Submit both completed and signed forms electronically (Word or PDF) to DOALOS at doalos@un.org by the deadline.
