University College Dublin (UCD) is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the highly competitive Ad Astra Elite Sports Scholarships for the academic year 2024. The UCD Ad Astra Elite Sports Scholars program is dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering a culture of excellence. With a current cohort of 60 scholars representing a diverse range of sports including athletics, badminton, camogie, cycling, football, GAA, hockey, hurley, karate, modern pentathlon, rugby, soccer, sailing, swimming, and table tennis, the program has a proven track record of success.

Scholarship recipients benefit from a generous support package valued at €3,000, which can be allocated towards tuition, accommodation, or as a general stipend. Additional benefits include guaranteed on-campus housing, academic mentoring, comprehensive healthcare, nutritional and fitness guidance, sports psychology support, and access to state-of-the-art strength and conditioning facilities.

Eligible Nationalities

Eligibility Criteria

Prospective Students

• Must be graduating high school students commencing studies at UCD in September 2024.
• Demonstrated exceptional athletic achievements in their chosen sport.
• Strong academic record: 6 H1s in the Leaving Certificate, 4 A* at A-level, or equivalent International Baccalaureate score (contact UCD Admissions for equivalency).

Current UCD Students

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.68.
• Successful completion of 60 graded ECTS credits and fulfillment of program progression requirements.
• Nomination by their respective UCD academic department based on academic excellence.

Application Procedure

The UCD Ad Astra Elite Sports Scholars program involves a three-step application process:

Step#1: Submit Your Application

• Complete the online application form available on the UCD Ad Astra Academy website.
• Prepare a compelling personal statement outlining your goals and aspirations.
• Detail your sporting achievements in a dedicated statement.
• Provide supporting documentation to evidence your academic and athletic accomplishments.

Step#2: Shortlisting and Interviews

• Applications undergo a rigorous evaluation based on academic merit and the strength of your statements.
• Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in an interview.

Step#3: Scholarship Offers

• Up to sixteen exceptional candidates will be awarded scholarships.
