University of Auckland Vaka Moana Scholarship 2024, New Zealand (Up to $20,000 with Accommodation and Laptop) is available to undertake Undergraduate level programs at University of Auckland.

Benefits

Scholarship Award:

  • Successful applicants will receive a scholarship valued at up to $20,000 to support their first year of undergraduate study. The award includes:
  • Accommodation: A year of catered accommodation in a single room at a Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland Hall of Residence.
  • Laptop: A university-provided laptop.
  • The scholarship will be recorded on the recipient's academic transcript.

Eligible Nationalities

This scholarship is only open to domestic students.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Pacific Islander Students: Applicants must be classified as Pacific students.
  • New Zealand Citizenship or Residency: You must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Final Year of Secondary School: Be currently enrolled in your final year of study at a New Zealand secondary school or kura.
  • Future Studies: Intend to enroll full-time in an undergraduate degree program, a Tertiary Foundation Certificate, or a Certificate in Health Sciences followed by an undergraduate degree at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland in the following year.  

Selection Criteria:

  • School Endorsement: Quality of endorsement from your current school.
  • Academic Achievement: Based on prior year's results in Level 2 or higher National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) or an equivalent qualification (Code: 1080).
  • Additional Considerations: Participation in Māori performing arts, Pacific cultural activities, leadership potential, achievements in academics, sports, or arts competitions, community recognition, and personal circumstances.

Personal Circumstances:

These will be considered during selection and may include:

  • Financial need
  • Decile or Equity Index number of your secondary school or kura
  • First in your family to attend university
  • Refugee background
  • Disability
  • Care responsibilities for whānau (family)
  • Living or attending school in a rural area
