Benefits

What Makes the Stamps Scholarship Unique?

The Stamps Scholarship is more than just financial assistance; it is a comprehensive support system that fosters academic excellence, leadership, and personal development. Here’s what makes the Stamps Scholarship stand out:

  • Full Financial Coverage: The scholarship covers the full cost of attendance for four years. This includes tuition and fees, on-campus housing, a meal plan, University health insurance, textbooks, and even a laptop allowance. By alleviating financial stress, the scholarship allows students to focus entirely on their studies and personal growth.
  • $12,000 Enrichment Fund: Scholars receive access to a $12,000 enrichment fund, which can be used for study abroad programs, undergraduate research, unpaid internships, and other educational pursuits. This fund enables scholars to enhance their academic experience and broaden their horizons. Importantly, all expenses under this fund are subject to prior approval by the Office of the Provost.
  • Exclusive Community: Stamps Scholars become part of a unique community of like-minded individuals at UM and nationwide. This community offers networking opportunities, cultural and leadership programs, academic and scientific research support, and access to various conventions and regional conferences.
  • Comprehensive Support: The scholarship includes funding for study abroad programs, research projects, and leadership initiatives, ensuring that scholars are well-equipped to achieve their academic and professional goals. Scholars also benefit from invitations to online events and networking opportunities, fostering connections that can last a lifetime.

Eligible Nationalities

This scholarship is open to students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Stamps Scholarship, high school seniors must apply to UM through Early Decision I or Early Action. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2024 and all First-Year Admission Requirements must be completed by this date.

Application Procedure

Once the applications are in, a selection committee reviews the candidates based on their academic achievements, leadership potential, and overall excellence. Semi-finalists are then asked to write a short essay in response to a pre-determined prompt. Finalists are selected based on a holistic review of their applications, supporting documents, and essay responses.

Finalists are notified of their status in late January, and those who progress to the final round will be interviewed by the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation. The final scholarship announcements are made by early March.

Terms and Conditions

To maintain the Stamps Scholarship, recipients must meet specific academic and enrollment criteria:

  • Full-Time Enrollment: Scholars must complete a full-time undergraduate program of study, enrolling in at least 12 credit hours during each of the fall and spring semesters. This amounts to a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year.
  • Academic Performance: Scholars are required to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. The first GPA assessment occurs at the end of the second semester of attendance, ensuring that students remain on track academically.
  • Financial Revisions: The award is subject to revision if the scholar receives any other grants, scholarships, or prepaid tuition and housing aid that were not anticipated at the time of the award. This ensures that the financial package remains fair and balanced.
