The Kennan Institute seeks applicants with a keen interest in advancing research that influences policymaking, focusing on collaboration among professionals from Russia, Ukraine, the US, and beyond. This three-month fellowship offers fellows a conducive environment to conduct policy-oriented research, present their findings to policymakers, and engage with the global research community.

• Monthly stipend: $4,000
• Research support: Access to the Wilson Center’s facilities and resources
• Travel assistance: Limited travel support for research and policy events
• Location: Fellows are required to be in residence at the Wilson Center for the full duration of the fellowship.

While the fellowship does not cover health insurance or accommodation expenses, fellows benefit from proximity to influential policymakers and the vibrant research ecosystem in Washington, D.C.

Eligible Nationalities

This fellowship is open to all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

There are no citizenship restrictions for the Kennan Fellowship, making it a truly global initiative. Applicants can apply either individually or as part of a research team. In the case of team applications, the applicants must represent at least two different countries, encouraging cross-cultural collaboration.

• Co-author policy-relevant research papers
• Present research at events in Washington, D.C. and internationally
• Engage with policymakers and experts in D.C.

The fellowship conducts two application cycles annually. For the current cycle:

• Open period: October 1, 2024 – October 31, 2024
• Deadline: October 31, 2024
• Notification: Results announced within 6-8 weeks of submission

Successful applicants are expected to begin their fellowship within six months of acceptance, in consultation with the Kennan Institute.

Application Procedure
