What you'll study

This programme combines coursework in history, politics, cultural studies, economics and language to develop deep regional knowledge and comparative analytical skills. Typical modules include regional history and historiography, contemporary politics and policy, cultural and media studies of the region, social and economic development, research methods in area studies and intensive language study. Students complete fieldwork or a study abroad placement where possible, and undertake a capstone project or honours thesis that applies interdisciplinary methods to a focused regional question. Electives allow concentration on subregions, migration and diaspora studies, environmental and resource issues, or cultural heritage and museum studies.
